COMPANYPROFILE

Civil · Mechanical · Electrical · Supply

A 100% black owned engineering, maintenance and supply company serving power stations, mines, municipalities and industry across Mpumalanga since 2001. Wenzekahle is an isiZulu word for a job done well, and it is the standard we hold ourselves to on every site.

Welcome

The team you call when it must be done properly

Wenzekahle Maintenance Services was established in 2001 to take advantage of the opportunities created in different industries, and we have been building, maintaining and supplying ever since.

The company is owned by skilled and competent people drawn from different industries. Over the years we have restructured the business into five focused divisions, so that each one concentrates on what it does best and delivers real value to the client in front of it.

From our base in eMalahleni, in the heart of South Africa's energy and mining belt, we offer engineering services to mining companies, government departments, non governmental organisations and industrial clients. Our involvement runs through the full life of a project: the first consultation, planning and design, implementation and commissioning, and the maintenance that keeps an asset working long after handover.

We do not believe in working alone. Wenzekahle shares its expertise by partnering with other black owned enterprises, providing solutions and, where it makes sense, equity participation, so that capability grows on both sides of the partnership. And as the company expands across the province, employing local people remains a deliberate part of our job creation strategy.

Wenzekahle is what you say to someone who has done a job well. We chose the name because it is also our promise: every road, every structure, every clean-up and every delivery, done properly the first time.

Ownership and empowerment

Broad based, black owned, and serious about it

Wenzekahle Maintenance Services is a 100% black owned company. It is broad based, and it is controlled and managed by previously disadvantaged individuals.

Our empowerment goals go beyond the shareholding. We want to build an organisation that creates platforms and opportunities for previously disadvantaged and disabled individuals in the business sector, so that they can realise their full potential. Developing previously disadvantaged youth and women through our work is part of how we measure success.

Empowerment is not a paragraph in this profile, it is the reason the company exists in the shape it does. As the business grows across the province, we keep employing local people as a deliberate part of our job creation strategy, and we treat the community as the main beneficiary on every community development project we take on.

  • Local employment and job creation built into how we resource every project
  • In-service training for new graduates and tertiary students wherever we can place them
  • Partnerships with other black owned enterprises that share solutions, skills and equity participation
  • Development of previously disadvantaged youth and women through our work

To live up to our name, and to be a light to our business partners

What drives us

Mission, values and our goal

Our mission

To be the best trusted, successful, sustainable and professional business we can be.

That means building a financially stable establishment that can carry its people and its commitments through good years and hard ones. It means using the business as a tool to eradicate poverty and provide hope in the communities where we operate. And it means holding ourselves to our health and safety commitments under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, with our quality management aligned to ISO 9001 principles.

Our values

We exist because of our clients

We know that we exist because of our clients, and we genuinely enjoy serving them. Certifying our work with quality is how we say thank you for the trust.

Professional in everything

We conduct our business and our personal lives with integrity, honesty, professionalism, commitment, respect and dignity.

Integrity is the golden thread

It runs through every quote, every claim, every handover and every conversation, whether a client is watching or not.

Quality is a promise

Work is finished when it is done properly, not when it is merely done. Our name holds us to that standard every day.

Our goal

To be a nationally and internationally respected, profitable company that creates jobs, develops its people and leaves every client wanting to work with us again.

Mechanical and civil engineering

Our founding division, and still the backbone of the business: roads, structures, reticulation and heavy mechanical work for municipalities, mines and industrial clients.

Our civil teams build and rehabilitate roads, from upgrading and surfacing gravel roads to regravelling, storm water works and full concrete roads, with density testing done properly along the way. We construct buildings, storm water diversion channels, sewer and water reticulation with house connections, and pedestrian bridges that communities use every day. On the mechanical side we take on serious industrial work, much of it inside live Eskom power stations where planning, safety and clean execution are not negotiable.

How we work

Business development that starts with your agenda

Business development is the process we use to be proactive and consistent in delivering value: a systematic approach to retaining key customers and developing new business, built on four focus areas.

A strategy based on the customer's agenda

To provide value to a customer, we must understand the customer's business and its agenda: the issues that matter, and how we can help resolve them. A facilitated, high impact meeting focused on the customer's current situation, future state and the success factors needed to achieve its goals gives us that understanding. Armed with a clearly defined mission and objectives, we can communicate with the customer in a structured way from the start.

Building relationships

Working in partnership and focusing on the whole value chain, both people and technology, is how mutual trust is built. Broadening and deepening long term relationships with our customers is central to the way we manage and grow every account.

Opportunity management

Because we stay close to the customer's agenda, we can identify issues, implications and potential solutions early, together with the opportunities that would contribute most to the customer's business. We manage these opportunities deliberately and prioritise them according to their value to the customer and to our own account objectives, so that effort goes where it counts.

Measuring performance and satisfaction

An essential part of managing a customer account is measuring how the Wenzekahle account team performs from the customer's point of view. Integrity and responsibility are embedded in these measurements, and they form part of the packaged offering we bring to every client.

Where we are going

Objectives and strategic vision

Our objectives

Wenzekahle believes in service excellence, and our objectives spell out what that means in practice:

  • To create employment equity across the races and gender in line with the empowerment objectives of Government
  • To execute technically challenging work in a manner that exceeds our clients' expectations
  • To offer in-service training to new graduates and tertiary students, giving them a real site and real responsibility to learn on
  • To empower our staff into a strong technical team that is recognised by engineering institutions
  • To treat the community as the main beneficiary on every community development project we deliver

Strategic vision

To create value, support and wealth for our stakeholders.

We pursue long term alliances with clients and partners, and we do it while retaining our own culture and identity. Growth that costs us who we are is not growth we want. The relationships we build are meant to last beyond a single contract, which is why so much of our work over the years has come from clients who called us back.

People and safety

Team, resources, health and safety

Team and resources

Wenzekahle keeps a lean core team and scales up with local labour for each project, which keeps overheads honest and spreads work into the communities where we operate. Site teams, artisans and general workers are recruited per project, with preference given to local labour as part of our job creation commitment.

Health, safety and quality

Most of our work happens on live industrial sites: power stations, mines and public roads. Safety is not an add-on there, it is the condition for being allowed on site at all.

Wenzekahle is committed to its health and safety obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and our quality management approach is aligned with ISO 9001 principles and the occupational health and safety management thinking behind OHSAS 18000. Every project runs with safety officers in the team, proper protective equipment for every worker, and compliance with the client's own site safety standards, including Eskom's requirements at its power stations.
